Joan, Jerry and I lived three fourths of the year in Tucson but then decided to go to FL where a number of our friends were - in Venice. We bought a home there and stayed about five months each year. We LOVED Venice and all that went with it. However, Jerry found out he had brain cancer two years ago. We sold our home there this past year. Now, I've lost Jerry and my life has "all of a sudden" changed completely. I posted an update on my profile.

My husband, Jerry, died on August 15th, a few weeks ago. Anyone who has gone through this knows there are no words to explain how I feel. I was with him when he died in our home. I saw the light go our of his body and it has taken part of me with it. Being one half of a twosome for so long leaves one devastated to become "one" again. I am selling our home here in Fond du Lac and moving to Appleton where four of my five children live. Jerry and I talked about this and he knew I would want to be near my family so this is not a "all of a sudden" decision. I have so many great friends here - we had so many - but I need to be with my family now. It is only a 40 minute drive so I'm sure I will stay in close contact with my friends from here and make new friends in Appleton plus my very close friend of 35 plus years lives there also. My heart may mend but it will always be broken. I miss Jerry so very, very much and my heart "hurts" .

My husband, Jerry, had seizures in September, went to the ER here in Fond du Lac for several days. He was referred to a brain surgeon in Milwaukee at Froedert Hospital. He had numerous MRI's and they showed a mass in his brain area. He had brain surgery. The mass was removed and It was classified as: Anaplastic Astrocytoma and is a grade 3 (there are four grades) so his is very serious.. He had the surgery on a Monday - came home on Wed. - was out for lunch with his friends on Thurs. and was doing great. However a few days later he was sent back to Froedert in Milwaukee as he had blood clots that went to his lung and his leg plus he was terribly swollen in his stomach and his organs, etc. He was diagnosed with "C-Diff" or Clostridium Difficile which is a horrible bacteria that gets in the intestines, colon. He was in the hospital there for 5 weeks and they thought he was going to die. We did a fecal transplant (I was the doner) and that probably saved his life. He came home and amazingly recovered quite quickly - faster than anyone thought possible. He had radiation 5 days a week on his brain area and took a chemo pill every evening. This program was for six weeks. At the present time he is on a four week time frame of being off his treatments. The middle of March he will start taking a chemo pill (twice the dose of the previous one). He will take that for 5 days and be off 21 days and that will last till November sometime - IF - all goes well. We have been told that 27% of people with his type of brain cancer live for 5 years. I prefer to think that Jerry is such a strong person that he will be in the 27%. He now sees a doctor (the only board certified oncology doctor in the state) once a month with an MRI taken every other month. Jerry's brain surgeon said this doctor will follow Jerry's case for years - he is part of a study now for people with his grade three type of brain cancer. He is doing so well at present. This picture was taken in Dec. at his mother's 99th birthday. My mother living in assisted living in The Village turned 99 the middle of January.
